Captain of Nigeria men’s handball senior team, Stephen Sesugh is delighted to have won his first Africa Games medal with Nigeria, www.aclsports.com reports.

Nigeria beat Benin Republic 38 to 20 goals in the third place match to win the bronze medal at the recently concluded 13th African Games in Ghana.

The ASPAC HC of Benin Republic player told www.aclsports.com that the crop of players paraded at the African Games showed determination and zeal to return home winning a medal.

He praised the technical and tactical abilities of the coaching crew led by ex-international, Rafiu Salami for bringing new innovation into the senior national team.

The former Kano Pillars HC player said, “I am happy to have led the men’s senior team to win a bronze medal at the 13th African Games in Ghana. It was a tough tournament looking at the country that participated but I know the future is bright for this team.

“We have a lot of young talents coming through the ranks and it makes the team more competitive. We were disappointed at not making the final but ending with a win is a good thing.

“I want to commend our coach, Rafiu Salami for his tactical approaches to every match at the African Games. Last January, we were able to win the President’s Cup at the 26th African Nations Cup in Ghana and now we have added a bronze medal to our cabinet. I want to thank the Handball Federation of Nigeria led by Sam Ocheho for believing in this relatively young side; we will continue to make the country proud”.

Sesugh also praised his side’s mental strength during the tournament, insisting that they displayed a good attitude.

He vowed to lift his club side, ASPAC HC in the 2024 Benin Handball League season.

Stephen Sesugh won the Prudent Energy Handball League thrice with Kano Pillars before joining ASPAC HC of Benin Republic..

Stephen Sesugh has played in two African Games and four African Nations Cup.
