Edo Queens recorded the most impressive result of the AITEO Cup quarter final first leg schedule as they held defending champions Rivers Angels to a 0-0 draw in Port Harcourt.
Facing the reigning league champions for the first time this season, the Benin City based side put up a show of dogged determination to leave the second leg tie on Saturday open for both sides to take.

Angels came close to scoring on 9 minutes through Amarachi Ojinma but her carefully weighted freekick came off the cross bar.
All other first leg ties ended in 1-0 scoreline in favour of the home teams.

In Uyo, Imaobong Emmanuel scored at the death to earn Ibom Angels a derby victory over Pelican Stars of Calabar while in Umuahia, Abia Angels held on to a first half lead in their defeat of Confluence Queens of Lokoja.
Taiwo Akinyinka scored the game’s only goal after 33 minutes to give Ann Chiejine’s side a slim first leg advantage.

In the day’s other tie, last year’s beaten finalist Bayelsa Queen laboured to a 1-0 victory over Nasarawa Amazons.
Winger Aminat Yakubu scored the only goal of the game ten minutes before half time.

All return leg fixtures will hold this Saturday at the home ground of the teams that played away from home on Wednesday.
