Ahead of the second stanza of the 2023 NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, the coach of Bayelsa Blue Whales, Tony Nelson said his team will be contending for the title in Akure.

Nelson gave the hint during the team’s training session in Yenegoa on Wednesday.

Nelson who promised a better performance in the second stanza said his players will continue to show what they are made of without fear of the so-called big teams.

He noted that his girls will continue to show what they are made of without fear of the so-called big teams.

He said, “The reason for the impressive display is because of my players’ attitude toward basketball and quick recovery of behind-the-scenes content.

“The girls still have room for improvement, the technical crew has noticed some little corrections during the training and I want to assure you that we will not leave any stone unturned”.

However, Tony Nelson laments the team’s lack of adequate sponsorship, stressing that the team doesn’t have a camping base.

He further highlighted numerous challenges the girls face such as a lack of medical personnel in the team among others.

Nelson hailed the Bayelsa State Government for being supportive since the team was established and called on them to come to their aid to enable them to meet some of the demands.

The Atlantic Conference Phase 2 is scheduled for 2rd to 8th October, 2023 at the Indoor Sports Hall Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
