Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Plateau United wrapped up their preparations for this weekend’s Total CAF Champions League (TotalCAFCL) engagement with a 1-2 loss to Nasarawa United in Jos on Monday afternoon, reports www.aclsports.com
The Tin City side, coached by Abdu Maikaba only arrived Jos on Sunday after participating in the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu pre-season football tournament in Aba last week but were still able to field a team of experienced professionals for Monday’s match.
Former El-Kanemi Warriors star Sunday Anthony gave Plateau the lead after three minutes but Adamu Hassan levelled matters for the visitors ten minutes later, finishing a superb pass by Haggai Katoh.
Nasarawa United, coached by former Nigerian Girls U17 side, Flamingos handler Bala Nikyu scored what turned out to be the winner in the 18th minute through right back Abubakar Abdullahi who headed home Katoh’s free kick.
The friendly game afforded Maikaba the chance to look more into his second eleven ahead of what promises to be a gruelling football season. Plateau United were beaten at the semi final stage of the Gov Okezie Ikpeazu pre-season football tournament last Friday by overall winners Enyimba.
Majority of Plateau’s starters in the loss to Enyimba are expected to line out with the team when they host Simba SC of Tanzania this weekend in their preliminary round first leg encounter in Jos.
