Osimhen played a key role in Napoli winning their first league title in 33 years, as well as reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-final in the just concluded campaign. On a personal note, the former Lille striker won the Serie A golden boot under former manager Luciano Spalletti and hopes to make a mark next term under the Frenchman.

Unexpectedly, Napoli have announced that Garcia is their new manager and he joins them just weeks after he left Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr after their disappointing performances in the league.

Spalletti left the club after their Scudetto success amidst disagreements with owner Aurelio de Laurentiis and Garcia, who was one of the candidates to get the role, has now been announced as his successor.

Rudi Garcia is Napoli's second non-Italian manager under the ownership of Aurelio de Laurentiis. The first one was Rafael Benitez.

Napoli had faced disappointment in their talks for the likes of Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Christophe Galtier. Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Italiano also decided not to join the club.

The Frenchman managed Roma in his previous stint in the Italian Serie A and also took Lyon to the semi-finals of the Champions League three seasons ago.

Osimhen, 24, is currently with the Nigeria Super Eagles, as they prepare for their match day five AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone before embarking on holiday.
