2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Hannah Reuben (Nigeria Army) has won gold medal in the women’s 76 kg event at the ongoing the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan on Friday www.aclsports.com reports.

CPL Hannah Reuben won the silver medal in the women’s 76kg event at the 2022 and 2023 African Wrestling Championships.

The 2015 All African Games silver medallist told www.aclsports.com that the World Military Wrestling Championship is another opportunity for her to prepare for next year’s African Games and Olympic Games.

Reuben applauded the Armed Force of Nigeria (AFN) for ensuring wrestlers in the military participated in the championship.

She said, “I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja and other service chiefs for ensuring wrestlers in the military attended the 36th World Military Wrestling Championship. The preparations for the tournament was top notch because we were provided with all the necessary logistics to excel.

“I used the World Military Championship to prepare myself ahead of next year’s African Games and especially Olympic Games in Paris. The only wrestler who have qualified is Odunayo Adekuoroye and it will be a thing of joy if other wrestlers qualify”.

Meanwhile, Esther Ojolaide settled for silver in the women’s 57kg event.

Eight Nigeria wrestlers including, Alex Richard, Tochukwu Okeke, Tobechukwu Udeh, Godwin Kali, Julius Adekunle, Alex Omosawe, Precious Tiebiri and Ibrahim Umar are expected to wrestle on Saturday.
